Me: Hi Paula. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
P.K: I'm a Kiwi living in Australia. I am married to an aussie, Mr K, have an aussie child whom I have told he is a Kiwi, JK (a 12 yr old tween ), plus my aussie step daughter, Miss K, (18.5), has lived with us for the past 6 years. The star in our family is our puppy who stars in his own blog, sneakypuppy.com In my former life I was Miss International New Zealand, a model, professional speaker, professional sales trainer & motivation speaker & trainer, events organiser, and a promotions exec. You may be sensing a Driver, Type A personality by now, throw a perfectionist Virgo in there, and voila, YOU HAVE ME!
Me: What inspired you to create the Mom, Family and Child Help blog?
P.K: Unfortunately, I spend a lot of time on bedrest as I suffer from debilitating migraines, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, chronic lower back pain (have just had the first of three back intervention minor sugeries coming up this month), as well as food & chemical intolerances & allergies. Blogging is my connection with the world and keeps me from total isolation when the kids are at school and hubby at work.
Me: Is there any special message you want to give to other moms?
P.K: Yes. Don’t let fear of the unknown hold you back. Dream big dreams and don’t be afraid to have a go-what’s the worst thing that can happen if you do? Face that down, overcome it and then take the first step.
Me: How about dads? Sometimes we overlook them, but they're an integral part of a family. What advice do you have for them?
P.K: Be as supportive as you can. If you work full time and your wife is SAHM, don’t be an absent parent and leave the child rearing and household duties to her. Share the burdens as well as the joys 50-50. If you both work, this is still necessary, if not more so. If Dad is the stay at home parent, Moms follow the advice above. 50-50 rulz in our family and home. That is the example we wish to set for our son & daughter.
Me: Lastly, I've been on a legacy kick here lately. Tell me, what legacy are you trying to leave for families?
P.K: That during our family life it is ok to do the best we can with what we know and if we CAN seek help, support and knowledge from other resources that will help US to DO better, that’s ok too.
‘It is important for us all to Live, to Learn, to Love and to Leave a Legacy’ Stephen R Covey.
